Huge audiences have tuned into Channel Nine and GEM over the past four days to witness Australia win the first Commonwealth Bank Ashes Test at The Gabba.
Saturday’s (day 3) coverage saw a National (5 City Metro + Regional) peak audience of almost 2.5 million and an average of 1.67 million with Total People dominating the day’s viewing.
Sunday’s (day 4) broadcast saw equally large viewing numbers with a National average audience (5 City Metro + Regional) of 1.5 million Australians tuning in and recording a peak of 2.51 million late in the final session. Due to rain delays play resumed during the 6.00pm News, which saw 249,000 viewers watch the final overs played out on GEM.
Cricket Australia Live - The Official App proved incredibly popular, 279,000 users have downloaded the App, allowing fans to view match stats and figures, watch video highlights, or stream the Channel Nine coverage live. App users are spending around 8 minutes per visit. The App also quickly featured on iTunes becoming the most popular free App and the 12th highest top grossing app within Australia.
With over 185,000 #Ashes tweets, the first Ashes Test dominated Australian Social Trends last week, peaking with 813 tweets per minute during the afternoon on the second day of play.
