Viewers flocked to Seven’s coverage of Day One of the Australian Open where Aussies Samantha Stosur, Ashleigh Barty and Jordan Thompson ignited the courts of Melbourne Park in the opening round.
Day time coverage peaked at a combined metro and regional audience of 1.37million viewers, with night time coverage attracting a national peak of 1.81million.
For individual matches, a peak of 940,000 viewers switched on to see Australian no. 1 Samantha Stosur seize victory in a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 match against Czech Klara Zakapalova during the day-time broadcast Then a combined peak of 1.64 million viewers watched Australian hopeful Ashleigh Barty battle World No. 1 Serena Williams, losing to the tennis great in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Seven’s Day Two coverage will see Aussie Bernard Tomic take on World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, LIVE on Channel 7 from 7pm tonight in a blockbuster clash on Rod Laver Arena. Fans will also see a resurgent Lleyton Hewitt continue to chase victory as he takes on Italian Andreas Seppi, late afternoon on centre court.
