New Doctor Who Peter Capaldi will begin work on the next series of the BBC show this week.
A show source said: “We are all geared up and ready to start filming, it is always exciting at the start of a Doctor Who series, but even more so when we have a new Doctor.
“Peter is Whovian and has been a fan since he was a kid so he will have been looking forward to it as much as us. Everyone can’t wait to get started.”
Capaldi’s eyes appeared in the show’s 50th anniversary film last year before Matt Smith regenerated into Capaldi in the final scene of the Christmas episode The Time Of The Doctor.
But he was only on screen briefly, asking sidekick Clara “Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?”.
Capaldi, who is keeping his Scottish accent for the role, was unveiled in August 2013 as Smith’s replacement.
At the time he said: "Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can't wait to get started."
The new series is not expected on screen on ABC1 until the second half of 2014.
