ABC and Sky News gear up for extensive G20 coverage this weekend

ABC News and Sky News are both planning extensive coverage of this weekends G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane.

The event will bring together on Australian soil an unprecedented assembly of world leaders including US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and many others.

ABC and ABC News 24 will cover every aspect of the build up and preparations for the world’s most important annual economic event, culminating in the G20 Leader’s Summit on November 15 and 16. 

SKY NEWS will be LIVE from the G20 Leaders summit venue in Brisbane from Thursday November 13, giving viewers front row access to Australia’s most anticipated political event for 2015. 

On Thursday, Political Reporter David Speers anchors a special G20 edition of PM Agenda at 4pm* followed by The Nation at 8pm* LIVE from Brisbane.

Across Thursday and Friday, commentary, analysis and all the key moments LIVE from Brisbane with SKY NEWS Political Reporter Laura Jayes and on SKY NEWS Business (Ch 602) with Business Editor, James Daggar-Nickson.

On the weekend, SKY NEWS Chief Political Reporter Kieran Gilbert will anchor First Edition LIVE from the Brisbane Convention Centre followed by Lunchtime Agenda at 1.30pm. At 4pm David Speers returns with a special one hour edition of PM Agenda.

A-PAC (Ch 648) will also have extended LIVE coverage including all key speeches and news conferences in addition to extra parliamentary sittings.

Friday, November 14

  • Michael Rowland will co-host ABC News Breakfast LIVE from the Brisbane Convention Centre 6:00-9:00am (AEDT). 
  • Tony Eastley LIVE from the Brisbane Convention Centre on ABC News 24 across the afternoon and eve of the G20 Leader’s Summit.
  • Leigh Sales hosts a 1 hour G20 ABC 7pm News special in NSW, ACT, TAS, SA & NT (viewers across Australia can see this program LIVE on ABC News 24 from 7:00pm AEDT).
  • For Queensland viewers, Karina Carvalho will host a special one hour local edition of ABC 7pm News.
  • In Western Australia, James McHale will anchor a one hour special edition of ABC 7pm News with LIVE crosses to Brisbane as leaders begin to arrive for the G20 Leader’s Summit.
  • As the election campaign continues in Victoria, Ian Henderson and Josie Taylor present ABC 7pm News and 7.30 Victoria, offering locals the latest on both the G20 and Victoria Votes – two of the year’s biggest events.

Saturday, November 15

  • ABC Weekend Breakfast coverage with LIVE crosses to Tony Eastley from 7:00am AEST.
