The ABC has named respected television producer, Steve Bibb, as its new Head of Factual.
Bibb, who will assume the role from January 19, is currently Executive Producer of Factual at Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder. He joined Cordell Jigsaw Productions in 2010 which became CJZ after the merger with Zapruder’s Other Films. CJZ is now Australia's largest locally owned production company.
“To be offered the role of Head of Factual at the ABC is a rare honour - a privilege - and it is truly exciting to be a part of a first class creative team at the national broadcaster,” says Bibb.
“If you have a passion for storytelling, The ABC is the place to be. It’s a place where you can tell stories relevant to modern Australia in a fresh and compelling way across a diverse range of topics, and I look forward to working with the in-house factual teams and the wider independent production community.”
Bibb’s list of accomplishments in Australian television includes the development and production of a number of factual series and documentaries includingGreat Southern Land and Two Men in China, both for the ABC. As well, he produced Hardliners and MegaTruckers for the A&E channels and the true crime series, Wanted, for the Ten Network.
Before CJZ, Bibb enjoyed almost a decade as a Nine Network producer and executive producer. He is a former newspaper journalist for Fairfax in Sydney, News International in London and News Corporation in Sydney. He also co-authored Bronte’s Story, a best-selling account of a Melbourne woman’s brave battle with anorexia nervosa. The book followed on from three documentaries Bibb produced on Bronte’s journey.
Says Adrian Swift, Head of Content and Creative Development, “Steve Bibb is a superb story teller and comes to the role with a background in news, documentary and blue chip factual series. But most of all, he can tell a story that connects with audiences. I'm genuinely delighted to be working with him to enhance and redefine our factual strategy in the coming years."
