The long-standing popular segment Lou’s Handball has been dumped from the Sunday AFL Footy Show after 20 years on Australian Television.
While representatives at Nine are refusing to confirm the decision, this website understands the segment has been dumped amid a series of changes that will see the footy show shortened to a 90 minute format.
Originally hosted by AFL icon Lou Richards. Lou’s Handball has been part of the Sunday Footy Show since it first launched in 1993. Lou left the program in 2008 due to ill health, he currently lives in a nursing home. Billy Brownless has continued to host the segment in Lou’s honour.
Since Nine moved its studio’s from Richmond to the Docklands the segment has struggled amid cramped conditions.
While the Sunday Footy show has mostly been a ratings success since it first launched, in recent years the program currently hosted by Craig Hutchison has struggled against a resurgent AFL Game Day on Seven.
A sports news segment hosted by Christi Malthouse has also been scraped from the Sunday Football Show.
