As first revealed exclusively by this website on Monday, Talking Footy will return for 2014 in the new timeslot of 7.30pm Mondays Live on 7mate.
In 2014 the show will now be hosted by Luke Darcy.
Three-time premiership superstar Tim Watson and arguably the greatest player of all time Wayne Carey will sit alongside Darcy to dissect all the AFL news and issues on and off the football field.
Talking Footy first aired back in 1994, and with its in-depth analysis of football it set the weekly football agenda for a generation of fans as well as establishing a new benchmark in sports programming on TV.
It returned for the finals series last year with original host Bruce McAvaney back in the chair.
With Talking Footy filmed at Seven’s Docklands studios in Melbourne, the Adelaide-based McAvaney has elected to step away from the role in 2014.
When the program aired last year during the Finals series it struggled for ratings against Nine’s well-established Footy Classified. Now it will need to compete against the highly popular Fox Footy Monday lineup of AFL360 & On The Couch.
Talking Footy will also be encored at 11.30pm on Monday nights on Channel 7.
