Foxtel has announced August 14 as the SoHo channel’s premiere date for the epic drama Outlander, just one week after it premieres in the US.
The series is already eagerly anticipated internationally by the legions of fans of Diana Gabaldon’s best–selling series of Outlander novels, which began with the 1991 release Cross Stitch.
Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743. Upon her arrival, she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. But when she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited.
Outlander is filming on location in Scotland, starring Caitriona Balfe as Claire, Sam Heughan as Jamie and Tobias Menzies in the dual role of Claire’s husband Frank Randall and his ancestor Black Jack Randall. The series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, adventure and historical drama.
From executive producer Ronald D. Moore, Outlander will premiere on SoHo shortly after its US debut on STARZ (on August 9). The 16-episode series is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Co. and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.
