The final episode of Australia’s only tonight show, The Darren Sanders Show will air tonight at midnight on GO with the Nine Network unlikely to commission the program for a third season.

Hosted by comedian Darren Sanders the program has aired for two seasons on GO featuring interviews, music and comedy performances from local performers.

While the first season averaged a healthy 43,000 viewers in the 11:30pm timeslot on GO, the second season wasn’t given much of a chance with Nine burying it after midnight over the Christmas break.

“I would have loved to see them on consecutive nights at 11.30. I'm proud of the result and support by so many” Sander’s told me recently,
”I think there's a place for the show”

Sanders had previously worked on programs such as In Melbourne Tonight, The Russell Gilbert Show and Rove, before getting the opportunity to front his own project.

Tonight’s final episode will feature an interview with Underbelly actor Simon Westaway along with a musical performance from Mick Meredith and Venomous Priests of DIO.

While the Seven Network has had great success developing local comedies such as Kinne and Bogan Hunters on 7Mate, the Nine Network has struggle to create local content for its multi-channels.

Budget pressures at Nine have intensified considerably over the last 12 months with all programs feeling the pressure.

“They don't want to be pioneers as they have shareholders. I'll need to think about what to do,” said Sanders.
