Regarded as one of the AFL’s most inspiring players, former Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown looks set to take on a new role in the media in 2015 joining Gerard Healy and Jason Dunstall for Fox Footy’s highly respected On The Couch program.
While it’s yet to be officially confirmed, this website understands Brown will fill the vacancy left after Mike Sheahan retired from the program at the end of the 2014 season after 13 years with the show.
It is understood Brown has signed a lucrative contract with Fox Footy, which will also see him adding to the commentary during the channels weekend football broadcasts including the popular Friday night coverage. Browns arrival at the station will help fill the void left by the departure of Michael Voss whom is now focusing on his role as a midfield coach at Port Adelaide.
Brown had been expected to join a new look commentary team on radio station 3AW in 2015 however it’s understood Fox Footy may look to block this move with the station keen to keep its big stars exclusive to the pay-tv broadcaster.
With the loss of Mike Sheahan from On The Couch it will be the first time in the programs history that show has not had a football journalist as part of the line up. Sheahan will remain with Fox Footy in 2015 continuing to host the popular Open Mike program.
