Last nights epic golden point victory for the North Queensland Cowboys in the 2015 NRL Grand Final has also delivered the Nine Network a stunning ratings victory.
The game was watched by a national average audience of 3.667 million (Metro: 2.437 million / Regional: 1.230 million)
The National peak audience for the NRL Grand Final hit 4.227 million viewers (Metro: 2.688 million / Regional: 1.539 million).
While last nights rating makes the NRL Grand Final the highest rating program of 2015, it falls short of last years record-breaking NRL Grand Final ratings which featured the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canterbury Bulldogs. That match secured an average National audience of 3.951 million and a national peak audience of 4.650 million.
In Sydney, last nights game had an audience of 952,000 compared with last years 1.13m viewers. In Brisbane a whopping 788,000 tuned in compared with last years 584,000. The Brisbane result was the highest a grand final has rated in that city since 2006.
In the AFL stronghold of Melbourne 433,000 viewers tuned in compared with last years 475,000 viewers. 112,000 viewers watched from Adelaide last night, and 152,000 from Perth.
The lower result for this years NRL Grand Final is similar to this years AFL Grand Final ratings which also had a decline this year. It also means the Nine Network has presented the five highest rating sporting events of 2015.
