It was a premiere that promised to create controversy and certainly delivered on that promise.
Social media lit up tonight as viewers expressed outrage as a panel led Karl Stefanovic discussed issues including terrorism, mental health management and abortion. A sample of the initial twitter storm is included below, but its fair to say the vast majority was negative.
Panellists for the first episode included.
- Mark Latham - former federal Labor leader and stay at home dad
- Sandy Rea - criminal psychologist
- Senator Jacqui Lambie - Independent Tasmanian Senator
- Campbell Brownβ former Australian Rules footballer
- Jamila Rizvi β Editor-in-Chief of the Mamamia Network of websites
- Anne Henderson- Deputy Director of The Sydney Institute and editor of The Sydney Papers and co-editor of The Sydney Institute Quarterly.
- Dr. Anne Aly- Australian political scholar, academic and counter-terrorism expert

Verdict on #theVerdict. I'd laugh it off if Latham hadn't said such dangerously uninformed stuff on mental illness.

Good thing about #TheVerdict is it gives the opinions of concern against #Islamic extremism a chance to talk - #auspol @karlstefanovic ππ»

#TheVerdict has potential, but it's very messy, talking over each other. @Sandy_Rea_ a standout, sensible and intelligent.

Reminder that you only have a limited amount of time on this earth and it's best not to spend any of it listening to Mark Latham.

#TheirABC giving important time to mental health coverage while Ch9 gives Latham's awful views on depression more oxygen... telling.
