Nine expands coverage of Santos Tour Down Under | @Channel9

In just a month’s time Adelaide will again play host to the biggest and one of the best weeks in world cycling, the Santos Tour Down Under.

Broadcast exclusively across the Nine Network and Gem, the seven-day event will wind through Adelaide showcasing it’s beautiful countryside, and tantalising terrain, starring a host of the world’s best teams and riders including four time Tour de France stage winner, and overall victor of the Santos Tour Down Under in 2005, crowd favourite Luis Leon Sanchez.

The legendary smooth-talking “voice of world cycling“, Phil Liggett, will again call all the action, providing wheel to wheel coverage with his commentary partner of 30 years, Paul Sherwen. The broadcast veterans will also be joined by Australian cycling legend Robbie McEwen.

Coverage of the opening round of the UCI WorldTour will commence with the People’s Choice Classic on Sunday, January 17, followed by Stages 1-6 of the Santos Tour Down Under from Tuesday, January 19.

Cycling fans will see all the drama unfold live exclusively on Nine and Gem as some of cycling’s biggest names race through the streets of Adelaide. Broadcasting the event for the fifth time, The Nine Network will present 29 hours of Santos Tour Down Under coverage, showcasing the thrilling final three hours of each of the first four stages LIVE on Gem and Nine.

Leading up to what is sure to be a thrilling finale of cycling, the entire final two stages of the 2016 Santos Tour Down Under will be broadcast LIVE on Gem on Saturday, January 23, from 11.30am AEDT and on Nine Sunday, January 24, from 1.30pm.

Today Show Sports presenter Tim Gilbert will host the 2016 Santos Tour Down Under for Gem and the Nine Network while his Wide World of Sports co-host, Olympian John Steffensen, will bring viewers the endless excitement and colour that makes the Santos Tour Down Under much more than a bike race.
