Foxtel has today confirmed it will offer special pricing for the Premium Movies & Drama pick on Foxtel Play, just in time for the arrival of Game of Thrones season 5.
The Premium Movies and Drama pick includes showcase, the ‘home of HBO’ which will feature season 5 of the award winning HBO drama when it airs on Monday, 13 April at 11am AEST, same time as the US.
While this move will be perceived by many as a defensive decision against the launch of Netflix today, it's worth noting that Foxtel offered a similar deal last year.
New customers who sign up to Foxtel Play between 23 March and 30 April 2015 will be able add Premium Movies and Drama to their first $25* a month genre pick for only $5* extra a month for the first three months. Foxtel’s move allows fans and new comers to catch up on the drama and intrigue across the Seven Kingdoms from Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 from 23 March, as well as being part of the latest chapter when the hugely anticipated Game of Thrones season 5 takes to screens on 13 April, for only $30* a month for the first three months.
In addition to Game of Thrones, subscribers to Premium Movies and Drama are entitled to a host of other highly acclaimed dramas including The Red Road (s.1), starring Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones); Veep(s.4); Mad Men (s.7 part 2); The Americans (s.3);Wentworth (s.3), Black Sails and Orange Is the New Black (s.3).
Customers will also have access to Foxtel’s new BoxSets channel, featuring hundreds of hours of the most binge-worthy drama, along with a massive volume of blockbuster and library movies as part of their subscription.
Foxtel Executive Director of Marketing, Ed Smith, said, “Game of Thrones is a world-wide phenomenon that ranks among the highest in ‘must-see’ drama. We’ve worked closely with HBO to provide exclusive first run broadcast to season 5, along with our new timing simulcast with the US, to give Australian fans access to this brilliant series as quickly as possible; and now, with our special pricing on Foxtel Play, we’re looking forward to sharing the experience with as many people as possible as the drama behind this unforgettable series continues to unfold.”
