Critically acclaimed and award winning U.S. hit drama, Masters of Sex returns to SBS on Thursday 6th August at 9.30pm for its third season.
The year is 1966. Thrust into the spotlight by the publication of their controversial study, Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) find themselves the unlikely leaders of the Sexual Revolution. But as newfound fame and pressures mount, their relationship becomes twisted and tangled, putting the couple in a position that even they might not be able to handle.
Starring Emmy and Golden Globe® nominee Michael Sheen and Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan as real-life pioneers of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson, Masters Of Sex chronicles their unusual lives, romance and pop-culture trajectory. Masters and Johnson’s research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine.
Season three jumps forward four years from where season two left off, and it’s where we find the famed duo Masters and Johnson dealing with the glare of the national spotlight as their sex study is finally unveiled. It’s the start of the Sexual Revolution — and Masters and Johnson’s work will have a profound impact on contemporary relationships, especially their own evolving three-way “marriage” with Masters’ wife Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald).
Cast members returning for the third season include; Caitlin FitzGerald (Libby Masters), Annaleigh Ashford (Betty Dimello), Beau Bridges (Barton Scully), Allison Janney (Margaret Scully) and Teddy Sears (Dr Austin Lang). Emmy®-nominated actor Josh Charles will also join the series in a recurring guest role. Best known to television audiences as Will Gardner on The Good Wife, Charles will play Daniel Logan, a self-made businessman working in the scent industry. In an attempt to bottle the smell of sex and market an aphrodisiac to the general public, Dan seeks out Masters and Johnson's expertise on desire. A charismatic salesman, Dan’s involvement with Masters and Johnson becomes complicated.
