The X Factor panel is about to get a whole lot spicier when Mel B joins Guy Sebastian, Iggy Azalea and Adam Lambert.

Seven tonight revealed the ‘surprise’ judge, a decision that had been strongly rumoured for months.

Its an interesting move by Seven to once again back Mel B as a talent show judge. In 2013 the network successfully took legal action against the star after she walked out on her contract with Seven and signed to appear on Nine’s Australia’s Got Talent.

Leading a new category of ‘underdog’ contestants, Mel B now has the opportunity to hand pick artists that current judges will send home in the Three Seat Challenge.

On her return to the show, the outspoken judge said: “I’m a fighter, a fierce competitor and love mentoring upcoming artists, so the Underdog Judge role is a perfect fit for me.

Never one to shy away from a challenge she added, “Guy, Iggy and Adam are going to be left with egg on their face.” “I know I’ve got what it takes to turn this year’s hopefuls into stars,”

On the shakeup, Iggy Azalea said, “If Mel B wins the competition with an act I said no to, I’ll never forgive myself”. Guy Sebastian added: “She got the title of Scary Spice for a reason”.

No stranger to The X Factor desk, Mel was a member of the judging panel in 2011 and 2012. On her return to Aussie shores she added, “My family and I love Australia and cannot wait to get back there.”

Mel B’s Underdog category is set to take on Adam’s Under 22s, Guy’s Over 22s and Iggy’s Groups. Her Underdog hopefuls will be revealed during The X Factor’s first live show later this month.

The X Factor continues 7.00pm Sunday.
