A historic victory for the Cronulla Sharks has also seen a new record set with the biggest metro free-to-air audience ever tuning in for the National Rugby League Grand Final.
The Cronulla Sharks vs. Melbourne Storm clash achieved a National Free to Air average audience of 3.733 Million viewers including 1.086 Million regional viewers.
Ratings for the game peaked nationally at 4.226 Million last night on the Nine Network.
A 5 city metro average audience of 2.647 Million watched the Sunday night contest. The metro figure peaked at 2.955 Million and set a new record for NRL Grand Finals
In Sydney the game had an impressive average audience of 1.059 Million people. 720,000 viewers watched in Brisbane and 641,000 watched in the Storm’s hometown of Melbourne. An average of 109,000 watched in Adelaide and 118,000 in Perth.
While the NRL figure was impressive, it was well behind the AFL Grand Final, which achieved a national average of 4.089 million and a peak figure of 5.160 million viewers.
