Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Season 1 (Netflix, December 31)

One day in New York, Rebecca Bunch (Golden Globe winning co-creator and star Rachel Bloom) gets a promotion at work and has a panic attack. When she runs into her boyfriend from summer camp (Vincent Rodriguez III), she decides to drop everything and move to West Covina, California. It happens to be where Josh is from, but that’s not why she’s here. Rebecca finds a new job, makes friends and falls in love in this musical comedy, learning that life is not quite like the movies.

Lost in Pronunciation (ABC iView, January 1)

Lost in Pronunciation is the autobiographical story of a young man (creator and award-winning comedian Ivan Aristeguieta) who escapes the dangers of Venezuela only to find himself in ‘the lucky country’s safest, friendliest state – South Australia.’ With the help of two Aussie housemates, lesbian tradie Tia (Lori Bell) and her hipster vegan brother Scott (Nic Krieg), Ivan learns that to become a resident isn’t so much about ticking boxes on a form, but adapting to the strange and unique customs that we may take for granted, but make us truly Australian.

Sherlock: Series 4, Episode 1 (Stan, January 2)

Sherlock returns exactly 12 months since its last episode, and will be premiering on Stan the same day as the UK. In episode one of the new series, Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) waits to see where Moriarty (Andrew Scott) will make his posthumous move. One mysterious case in particular baffles Scotland Yard, but Sherlock is more interested in a seemingly trivial detail. Why is someone destroying images of the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher? Is there a madman on the loose? Or is there a much darker purpose at work? Something with its roots deep in Mary Watson’s past…
