Foxtel’s showcase channel has confirmed it will air the powerful documentary, Back on Board: Greg Louganis. The 90 minute special will premiere on Sunday March 6 at 8.30pm, with Encore screening on Friday March 11 at 7.30pm.
The documentary is an intimate andcandid profile of the public triumphs and private struggles of the Olympic gold medal diver and LGBT trailblazer - Greg Louganis.
Four-time Olympic gold medallist Greg Louganis is recognized as the greatest diver in history, but his biggest impact may ultimately comefrom being one of the first openly gay athletes in America. This 86-minute documentary looks at the public triumphs and private struggles of this LGBT trailblazer, utilizing rarearchival footage (including his near- disastrous head injury at the '88 Olympics) as well as recent footage of Louganis, now 55, as he struggles to keephis finances afloat after a series of misfortunes nearly left him homeless.
Back on Board: Greg Louganis traces the story of this transcendent athlete from a difficult childhood, throughhis Olympic conquests, to a transformative post- Olympic life, outlining the discrimination andother obstacles he has faced throughout his remarkable journey.
Back on Board: Greg Louganis won the audience awardat the Outfest LA Film Festival andthe Connecticut LGBT Film Festival, andwas named best documentary feature film at the Annapolis Film Festival. The LA Examiner called the film “A perfect 10,” and“a master class in documentary film making,” while the Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Anyone who doubts that documentaries canhavethe dramatic andemotional power of the best narrative films should see the Greg Louganis doc Back on Board,” describing it as a “rich, satisfying story, skilfully told.”
