Divisive newspaper columnist Andrew Bolt looks set to record an exclusive one-on-one interview with Cardinal George Pell.

The News Corp owned Australian has reported Bolt will speak with Pell in a one-hour live presentation on Sky News. The interview will occur soon after Cardinal Pell gives his final day of evidence before the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

However despite the News Corp publication describing the interview as confirmed, this website understands the interview is still no certainty, particularly after a Wednesday editorial from Bolt which was uncharacteristically harsh toward the Cardinal. Speaking with DeciderTV, the CEO of Australian News Channel and Sky News Australia, Angelos Frangopoulos stated,

“We can't confirm an interview or the timing of it should it happen.”

Frangopoulos also wanted it known that Sky News had not made any form of financial contribution to Cardinal Pell or the Catholic Church in order to secure the interview, describing the suggestion as “quite bizarre.”

Bolt had been one of Pell’s biggest supporters regularly using his various media platforms to defend the Cardinal, and describing the recent media coverage as a “witch-hunt”.

Bolt has spent this week in Rome working as a “correspondent” for Sky News. Since the axing of his Ten Network program, Bolt has been in discussions with Sky regarding launching a new program on the pay-tv news channel.
