The Seven Network's affinity with all things New Zealand continues to grow. After last year's drama series 800 Words was made almost entirely across the ditch, now Seven are parachuting in talent to to film their new TV/comedy/Gogglebox-like panel show BEST BITS.
Hosted by new Sunrise Weathergirl Sam Mac the series is purported to deliver the "funniest, most awkward and unique moments of TV", all dissected by a panel of comedians that for the first episode comprises of Melinda Buttle, Heath Franklin, Harley Breen & Lawrence Mooney.
The comparisons to Foxtel/Ten's Gogglebox (or even Seven's ill-fated TV Burp) are somewhat obvious - but it's a genre where nuance is the only key differentiator.
What can we expect? Pretty much the following with Aussie accents & more familiar faces...
(No way around it - that's a cracking joke.)
Using the NZ set, crew and studio facilities does pose this dilemma - is it an Australian show made in New Zealand, or New Zealand production made with Australian talent? Not that it matters - content made by our Kiwi neighbours has long been included in the ACMA-enforced 55% local production quota so it's really just a cost-saving mechanism.
Best Bits is in good hands with Mac at the wheel who is finally seeing his talents be exploited in the best possible way.
Best Bits (8 episodes) - starts Tue 29/03 10pm, Seven.
