Macleay College have announced Monica Attard has been appointed as the Head of Journalism, taking effect from trimester 3, 2016. She currently lectures on a number of course units for the College.
The former host of Media Watch brings significant experience and sizeable credentials to the role. The recipient of 5 Walkley Awards, including the Gold Walkley, Attard has also been named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for services to journalism.
Monica is a highly experienced news media professional having spent 35 years as a foreign correspondent, television and radio reporter and host. Most of her career has been spent at the ABC where she hosted many of its flagship programs including AM, PM, The World Today and Media Watch, and reported on these programs as well as Lateline and Four Corners. She is also a published author of a best-selling book on the collapse of Soviet communism.
She has also written for CNN and ABC Australia, and operated a successful facilitation service for debates and discussion across a wide range of issues with clients ranging from federal government agencies to multinational corporations.
Current Head of Journalism Stephen Davis remains in the role until the end of trimester 2.
