Seven AFL commentator Dennis Cometti has been recognised at the Australian Football Media Awards for an outstanding year of commentary.

The retiring legend was awarded the Most Outstanding TV caller in AFL broadcasting for a record 11th time.

An AFMA life member and a former Alf Brown trophy winner, Dennis’ entertaining and accurate commentary ensured he exceeded the award criteria of clarity, colour, flair and use of the language to marry words with pictures.

Saul Shtein, Seven’s Head of Sport, said:

“Dennis is a legend of our industry and a world class commentator, so this is a fitting reward as he takes a final bow. He thoroughly deserves all the accolades that come his way.”

AFL 360, hosted by sports journalists Gerard Whateley and Mark Robinson, was crowned Most Outstanding Program – Television/Online for an impressive fourth time.

Robinson was also honoured with individual accolades including Most Outstanding News Reporter for his work as Chief Football Writer with the Herald Sun and the prestigious Alf Brown Award for his work across Fox Footy, Herald Sun and SEN.

Fox Footy expert commentator Dermott Brereton was awarded Most Outstanding Special Commentator – Television (Match & Program). The outspoken commentator is renowned for his insightful, authentic and entertaining analysis of the game, drawing on his extensive experience as a five-time Premiership star with Hawthorn.

Damien Barrett won the award for Most Outstanding News Reporter for his work across the Nine Network and Triple M

The highly regarded Clinton Grybas Rising Star Award was presented to Ben Waterworth, AFL Digital Lead for FOXSPORTS.com.au..  

Fox Footy’s Head of Programming and Production Michael Neill said:

AFL Tonight’s Jake Niall also won Most Outstanding Breaking News Report for his work with The Age newspaper prior to joining the Fox Footy team in February 2016.
