There may not be much quality drama on TV over the summer period but local SVOD provider Stan is bucking the trend with new episodes of BBC crime thriller Sherlock being fast-tracked into Australia the same day they air in the U.K.

The first episode of the fourth season of Sherlock premiered exclusively this week. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson, his crime-fighting partner and best friend, fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Sherlock ever since the special episode “The Abominable Bride” premiered exclusively on Stan in January 2016. 

The second episode of the new season – “The Lying Detective” – will be available next Monday, January 9. Written by Steven Moffat, fans will see Sherlock face the most chilling enemy of his long career: the powerful and seemingly unassailable Culverton Smith (Toby Jones) – a man with a very dark secret.

The third and final episode of season four will premiere on Monday, January 16.
