The BBC has announced the hugely popular Victoria will return to the channel with the highly anticipated second series set to premiere on BBC First later this year.
A first clip and image from the seriesstarring Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Queen Victoria and Tom Hughes (The Game) as Prince Albert has been released showing the christening of the couple’s first born child Victoria.
Followingthecriticalacclaimand ratingssuccessofthefirstinstalment from Mammoth Screen– hailed as ‘a worthy heir to Downton Abbey’ by the Hollywood Reporter - the secondwill again be written by creator and executive producer Daisy Goodwin, and sees Queen Victoria face new challenges both at home and abroad.
Picking up six weeks after the first series ended, the new season establishes Victoria asaworkingmother, learningtobalanceherresponsibilitiesasbothparentand Queen. However, with Prince Albert still struggling to find a role for himself there is an inevitable power struggle between husband and wife.
Joining the cast for the second series are acclaimed British actress Dame Diana Riggas the Queen’s new Mistress Of The Robes, the Duchess of Bucchleuch, and Line Of Duty star MartinCompston will be making a guest appearance as social activist Dr. Robert Traill. Thepair joinsreturningcastmembersincludingNigelLindsay(Unforgotten), David Oakes (The White Queen), Daniela Holtz (Circle Of Life), Catherine Flemming (Tatort) and Nell Hudson (Outlander).
