Highlights

Chasing Coral (Netflix, July 14)

Chasing Coral taps into the collective will and wisdom of an ad man, a self-proclaimed coral nerd, top-notch camera designers, and renowned marine biologists as they invent the first time-lapse camera to record bleaching events as they happen. Unfortunately, the effort is anything but simple, and the team doggedly battles technical malfunctions and the force of nature in pursuit of their golden fleece: documenting the indisputable and tragic transformation below the waves.

Zero Dark Thirty (Stan, July 17)

Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Joel Edgerton and Ethan Hunt track down Osama Bin Laden in Katherine Bigelow’s exhilarating action thriller that was nominated for 5 Academy Awards.

Game of Thrones: Season 7, Episode 1 (Foxtel Now, July 17)

Game of Thrones is back, and has adopted Mad Men’s approach to vague episode descriptions. In “Dragonstone” (named for the Targaryen fortress), Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) organises the defence of the North. Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady) tries to even the odds and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) comes home. It seems that the odds are in Cersei’s favour, given that she’s blown up most of her political rivals, but Dany landed on Westeros with dragons and several prominent Houses as allies. This viewer is most interested in the adventures of Sansa and Arya Stark (Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams).

Aditi Mittal: Things They Wouldn’t Let Me Say (Netflix, July 18)

One of the first women to perform stand-up comedy in India, Aditi Mittal opens up about life in her country, including Indian movie ratings, in this stand-up special.

Broad City: Season 3 (Stan, July 19)

TV’s baddest BFFs are back for a whole new set of adventures, featuring an only slightly exaggerated trip to the DMV. Join Abbi, Ilana and a lineup of special guests as they find true love (or one-night stands), get high on life (among other things) and show New York City how it’s done.
