Highlights

Marvel’s Luke Cage: Season 2 (Netflix, June 22)

It’s been a few months, so it’s time for another Netflix Marvel show! In his second season, Luke Cage (Mike Colter, The Good Wife) is a local hero, but he’s still struggling to make ends meet. Returning favourites include Detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and Jessica Henwick (Marvel’s Iron Fist, Game of Thrones) and stars the late Reg E. Cathey (The Wire, House of Cards) as Luke’s estranged father.

Preacher: Season 3, Episode 1 (Stan, June 25)

Adapted from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Eisner Award-winning comic, the third season of Preacher promises gore galore and rampant religious fervour as preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Oscar nominee Ruth Negga) and vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) see their quest to find God lead them to Jesse’s ruthless grandmother.

Wentworth: Season 6, Episode 2 (Foxtel Now, June 26)

Wentworth premiered this week, but it didn’t fit in with last week’s queer and spy themed guide. (Actually, it might. I guess this is the moment I confess that I’ve never seen an episode of Wentworth. We all have blind spots, okay?) Following season five’s jaw-dropping finale, season six resumes with almost all of Wentworth’s inmates and officers stunned by the apparent joint escape of Franky Doyle and Joan Ferguson. Season six also sees acclaimed actors Leah Purcell and Susie Porter, as well as rising star Rarriwuy Hick, join the cast.

Secret City: Season 1 (Netflix, June 26)

Beneath the placid façade of Canberra amidst rising tension between China and the USA, senior political journalist Harriet Dunkley (Anna Torv, Fringe) uncovers a secret city of interlocked conspiracies, putting innocent lives in danger – including her own.

The Wine Show: Season 2, Episode 1 (Foxtel Now, June 27)

Last week Matthew Rhys was finishing his run on The Americans as we all worried about Phillip’s well-being, but we don’t need to worry anymore! Rhys is back with Matthew Goode (The Good Wife, Downton Abbey) in the south of France, tasting wine, speaking in his natural Welsh accent and generally having a wonderful time. The perfect show to watch with a glass of wine, French or otherwise.

Line of Duty: Season 4 (Stan, June 28)

The fourth season of Line of Duty sees the AC-12 squad investigate DCI Roseanne Huntly (Thandie Newton, Westworld), as they believe that she has deliberately ignored forensic evidence that proves a suspect’s innocence.
