The Second (Stan, July 20)

Filmed in partnership with Screen Queensland, The Second is Stan’s first original feature film. It follows the author of a celebrated erotic memoir, whose newfound success is threatened when her best friend and muse reveals the truth behind the memoir’s provenance, igniting an incendiary tale of sex, lies and betrayal. Directed by Mairi Cameron, The Second stars Rachael Blake, Susie Porter, Vince Colosimo, Martin Sacks and Susan Prior.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Deadlock (ABC iView, July 20)

Deadlock is a 5-episode web series dropping on ABC iView this Friday, in conjunction with a premiere at Splendour in the Grass. Set in and around Byron Bay, Deadlock explores the incredible highs, lows, joys, heartbreak, camaraderie, laughs and bittersweet sorrow that make up a teenager’s life. A clandestine ‘tunnel party’ in the depths of the hinterland of northern NSW draws teenagers from all over the region, but when a spectacular stunt leads to a car crash, a group of five teens face events that will transform their lives and their idyllic landscape forever.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dark Tourist: Season 1 (Netflix, July 20)

After the success of his documentary Tickled, New Zealand journalist David Farrier has come to Netflix for a new documentary series. Drawing on his interest in cryptozoology (he co-hosts a podcast called The Cryptid Factor with Rhys Darby), David visits unusual tourism spots around the world including a nuclear lake and a haunted forest.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Iliza Shlesinger: Elder Millennial (Netflix, July 24)

Newly engaged, Iliza Schlesinger brings an “elder millennial” perspective to relationships and sexual dynamics in this comedy special filmed aboard the U.S.S. Hornet. Looking back at the insanity of the road travelled and what’s to come, Iliza talks first apartments, a woman’s inner she-dragon, peacock mating calls and her newfound urge to squeeze a chubby baby leg.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Suburbicon (Stan, July 24)

Directed by George Clooney, written by the Coen brothers and starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be watching this acerbic black comedy about a home invasion that rocked a 1950s suburban community.
