Highlights

Orange Is the New Black: Season 6 (Netflix, July 27)

Now that its sixth season has dropped before House of Cards’, Orange Is the New Black is officially Netflix’s longest running original series. Following season five’s riot, the inmates at Litchfield have been separated and are headed for maximum security. The community they’d established in minimum security is gone and they are facing serious charges including additional jail time for their roles in the riot.

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Season 1 (Stan, July 27)

The lost season of RuPaul’s Drag Race has finally been unearthed, and it’s available on Stan as of today! Avid fans of the show already know who the winner is thanks to her appearance on the latest season of All Stars, but it’ll be interesting to see how she got there, and the strength of the competition

Power: Season 5, Episode 5 (Stan, July 29)

I’ve fallen behind on this show, which I loved in its first few seasons, but I received two emails in the last 24 hours to let me know that Kendrick Lamar is in this week’s episode, so I’m back in! He’s just finished his Australian tour including an appearance at Splendour in the Grass last weekend, and now he’s making his acting debut. Is there anything he can’t do? I really hope his character is also a musician.

Terrace House: Opening New Doors (Netflix, July 31)

There are eight new episodes of my favourite reality show. Half of the show’s original cast remains, including everyone’s favourite not quite a couple Tsubasa and Shion, and everyone’s waiting to see what happens. Meanwhile Ami moves out and some new cast members move in. The show’s secret success – the panel – are sure to have many thoughts on everything that happens in the next eight episodes.

Wellington Paranormal: Season 1, Episodes 1-2 (SBS On Demand, July 31)

Based on Taika Waititi’s acclaimed film What We Do in the Shadows, Wellington Paranormal is a mockumentary series, featuring familiar faces like Dion the Werewolf and Nick the Vampire. To fight Wellington’s paranormal threats, including a demon and strange extra-terrestrial plants, Sergeant Ruawai Maaka (Maaka Pohatu) has set up the first classified Paranormal Unit of Wellington Police. Officers Minogue (Mike Minogue) and O’Leary (Karen O’Leary) have been reassigned to the new unit, with varying degrees of scepticism about paranormal phenomena. The season consists of ten episodes, and two episodes will be dropping every Tuesday. Another fantastic addition to New Zealand’s comedy canon, Wellington Paranormal is not to be missed.
