Highlights

The Bisexual: Full Season (Stan, Available Now)

A six-part series written, directed by and starring this year’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner for The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Desiree Akhavan. The Bisexual is a painfully funny comedy series that explores the differences between dating men and women from the perspective of someone who finds herself doing both. It’s a raw, funny and unapologetic take on bisexuality, and the prejudices, shame and comic misconceptions that surround it.

The Romanoffs: Season 1, Episodes 1-2 (Prime Video, October 12)

From Matthew Weiner, the creator of Mad Men, The Romanoffs is a contemporary anthology series set around the globe featuring eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be the descendants of the Russian Royal family. This star-studded cast boasts Diane Lane, Isabelle Huppert and Noah Wyle among many other talented performers, including Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks and John Slattery.

Harlots: Season 2 (SBS On Demand, October 12)

Set against the backdrop of 18th Century Georgian London, Harlots follows the Wells family, led by matriarch Margaret (Samantha Morton). When her daughter Charlotte (Jessica Brown Findlay) places herself in the home of arch-rival bawd Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville), their toxic and deep-set rivalry is taken to a dangerous new level.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell: Season 1 (Netflix, October 12)

Netflix’s latest venture into food programming has incorporated Halloween into its marketing. Get ready to experience the art of darkness in ways you’ve never imagined with baker and artist Christine McConnell, as she welcomes you into her home. Every episode she bakes, sculpts and sews to create delectable confections and hauntingly disturbing décor with the help of her colourful collection of creatures.

Food Fighter (Foxtel, October 16)

This Foxtel special event documentary features Ronni Kahn, the founder of Oz Harvest. Filmed over two years and across three continents, Food Fighter follows Kahn’s crusade against the global food waste scandal.

Ear Buds: The Podcasting Documentary (SBS On Demand, October 18)

From Graham Elwood and Chris Mancini of The Comedy Film Nerds Podcast, and filmed at the Los Angeles Podcast Festival, Ear Buds explores the relationship between podcasters and their fans, which is unlike the relationship between creators and fans in any other medium. The documentary features interviews from prominent podcasters Doug Benson, Marc Maron, Aisha Tyler, and the minds behind Welcome to Night Vale.
