Highlights

Will & Grace: Season 2, Episode 1 (Stan, October 5)

Wedding bells are in the air in the new season of Will & Grace! The premiere picks up after last season’s finale, where Jack and Estefan got engaged, along with Will’s mum and Grace’s dad. Friends star David Schwimmer guest stars as Grace’s new boyfriend, alongside guest appearances from Alec Baldwin, Chelsea Handler and Jon Cryer.

Dancing Queen: Season 1 (Netflix, October 5)

Yes, he owns a successful dance studio. But Justin Johnson also slays onstage as Alyssa Edwards (RuPaul’s Drag Race, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars). It’s a fierce, full and fabulous life. Also fabulous: Cher’s album of ABBA covers, also titled Dancing Queen.

The Man in the High Castle: Season 3 (Prime Video, October 5)

Based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, The Man in the High Castle asks what America would look like if the Nazis won the Second World War. In season three, some characters confront the idea that there are other realities, even the possibility of travelling to different dimensions to see how life could have been different.

Trust: Season 1 (Foxtel, October 7)

This 10-part scripted drama series tells the story of John Paul Getty III, heir to the Getty oil fortune. The series takes place in 1973, when the young Getty is kidnapped in Rome, and his mafia captors are banking on a multi-million dollar ransom. After all, what rich family wouldn’t pay for the return of a loved one? Trust charts the young man’s nightmare ordeal at the hands of kidnappers who cannot understand why nobody seems to want their captive back. Paul’s father (Michael Esper) is lost in a heroin daze in London and refuses to answer the phone. Paul’s grandfather (Donald Sutherland) is marooned in a Tudor mansion in the English countryside. Only Paul’s mother (Hilary Swank) is left to negotiate with the increasingly desperate kidnappers, and she’s broke. Episodes will air every Sunday on showcase, while all episodes will be available On Demand.

Riverdale: Season 3, Episode 1 (Netflix, October 10)

Season 2 of Riverdale was a mess, but the brilliance of the first season gives me hope that they’ll be able to get back on track. As long as they remember that Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is the main character rather than Archie (KJ Apa), they’re doing something right. I like Archie, I promise! He’s just a bit bland. This season we find out what Betty’s older sister Polly has been up to ever since she fled Riverdale to raise her children on a farm. Yes, it’s definitely a cult, and it seems that she’s converted Alice (Mädchen Amick, Twin Peaks) to her cause.

All American: Season 1, Episode 1 (Stan, October 11)

I just watched the pilot for All American and I have a lot of questions, mainly because it’s inspired by the life of NFL player Spencer Paysinger, and I want to know which parts are fiction. Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) is a high school football player from Central Los Angeles, until he’s recruited by Billy Baker (Taye Diggs), the football coach at Beverly Hills High. While this is a high school drama, All American is an examination of race and class divisions in Los Angeles, and how Spencer adjusts to his new life in Beverly Hills.
