EXCLUSIVE: Foxtel customers are set to forfeit yet another premium entertainment channel with confirmation Disney XD will be shut down on Sunday 6 January.

Foxtel has stated it was Disney’s decision to stop broadcasting Disney XD in Australia. The channel launched in Australia in 2014 and had a target audience of kids between the ages of 6 – 15 years old.

The shutdown of Disney XD comes as the parent company prepares to launch its own streaming service in late 2019. Disney has been recently winding back it’s supply agreements with Netflix.

The loss of Disney XD is the latest in a long line of recent channel closures. Over the past 2 years Foxtel subscribers have seen FX, Lifestyle You, Turner Classic Movies, Eurosport News, and Nat Geo People removed from the service, while Foxtel Arts and Smooth Music were merged.

The closure of Disney XD will affect both the Foxtel broadcast service (via your set-top box) and Foxtel Now.

UPDATE: DeciderTV understand the changes will also affect customers of FetchTV in Australia.

Disney is promising despite the closure of Disney XD (channel 708), subscribers will still be able to catch the majority of programming via Foxtel On Demand or on the Disney Channel (channel 707) making it the single destination to watch Disney content.

In preparation for the closure, Disney have already moved some programming including Big Hero 6: The Series, Big City Greens, DuckTales and Gravity Falls to the Disney Channel (channel 707).

And from 6th January the following titles will also move to Disney:

• Walk the Prank

• Spider-Man

• Avenger's Assemble

• Guardians of the Galaxy

• Hulk and the Agents of SMASH

• Star Wars Rebels

• Star Wars Resistance

• Pokémon: Sun & Moon
