Highlights

Our Cartoon President: Episode 1 (Stan, Available Now)

From executive producer Stephen Colbert, Our Cartoon President examines the quintessentially Trumpian details of the U.S. presidency and his most important relationships, and no one is safe – from his close family and confidants to key political figures in both parties and members of the media. From lead animator Tim Luecke comes this parallel cartoon universe with new weekly episodes from February 12.

Counterpart: Series Premiere (YouTube, Available Now)

Starz’ Counterpart doesn’t have an Australian distributor yet, but the first episode is available on YouTube and isn’t region locked. Howard Silk (Oscar winner J.K. Simmons) works in an office and has a seemingly ordinary life until he learns that in a parallel world he’s a spy. This show is perfect for fans of Fringe and Orphan Black. The only catch is that it’s just the one episode.

Altered Carbon: Season 1 (Netflix, February 2)

Based on the novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is set 300 years in the future, when human minds are digitised and downloaded from body to body. Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinneman, The Killing) has been uploaded to a new body after 250 years to solve the murder of his new boss and the richest man in the universe Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy) in this sci-fi murder mystery.

The Trade: Episode 1 (Stan, February 3)

Powerful, moving and informative, critically acclaimed documentary series The Trade shines a light on the drug crisis currently cutting through the heart of America, through the eyes of those most affected: the growers, addicts, cartel bosses and the law enforcement hopelessly caught in its web.

Best Picture Winners (Foxtel Now, February 4)

Most streaming services provide blurbs, but Foxtel just gives me a list of films. Over 50 films will be available on Foxtel on February 4, and excluding The Fate of the Furious, all these films have won Best Picture at the Oscars. Films include classics such as Casablanca and Wings, which was Best Picture at the first Academy Awards held in 1929, as well as recent winners Argo and 12 Years a Slave.

Queer Eye: Season 1 (Netflix, February 7)

It’s been fifteen years since Queer Eye for the Straight Guy revolutionised reality television. Now the show is back on Netflix with a new Fab Five: Antoni Porowski (Food & Wine), Bobby Berk (Interior Design), Karamo Brown (Culture), Jonathan Van Ness (Grooming) and Tan France (Fashion). This season Queer Eye is set in and around Atlanta, Georgia, where our new Fab Five will forge relationships with men and women from a wide array of backgrounds and beliefs contrary to their own, touching on everything from LGBTIQ rights and social commentary to how to make the best farm-to-table guacamole.
