Ahead of Girls third season premiere tonight on Foxtel the HBO comedy series has been picked up for a fourth season.
The announcement was overshadowed by an altercation between the shows creator Lena Dunham and a TV reporter.
“I don’t get the purpose of all the nudity – particularly by you,” the reporter said to Dunham at the start of the Q&A, he went on to say he gets the point of all the nudity on HBO’s Game of Thrones, explaining it’s an attempt to “be salacious and titillate people.” But Dunham’s nudity baffles him.
“It’s a realistic expression of what it’s like to be alive,” Dunham responded “I totally get it if you’re not into me. That’s your problem.”
Season 4 will film in the US summer to air in 2015. Created by Lena Dunham, Girls has been a modest ratings performer but has transcended television to become a pop culture phenomenon in a way few shows have done and made stars out of its four leads, Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke.
Girls is executive produced by Lena Dunham, Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner, it has been a critical darling, earning solid reviews and a slew of major nominations, including two Golden Globe Awards last year.
