Last night’s NRL GRAND FINAL between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Canterbury Bulldogs was the highest rating NRL game ever. It secured a 5 City average audience of 2.597 million, with a peak of 3.098 million viewers.

A further 1.354 million regional viewers tuned in to the match (peaking at 1.552 million), giving a combined 5 City/regional average audience of 3.951 million and a massive national peak audience of 4.650 million.

In Sydney the game had an audience of 1.13m viewers, while in Brisbane  584,000 watched. Even in the AFL stronghold of Melbourne 475,000 viewers tuned in.

By comparison last weeks AFL Grand Final averaged  a combined 3.718m viewers including regional areas, and peaked at 4.251m viewers.

State of Origin Rugby League Game 3 match was the No.1 program of the night across all key demos securing a peak of 2.410 million and averaging 2.141 million total viewers across the 5 City Metro.

The National (5 City Metro and Regional) audience for the State of Origin Rugby League Game 3 match saw the peak grow to 3.886 million and the average to 3.379 million viewers. 

The Pre-Match was the night’s second most-watched program attracting a peak of 1.903 million and averaging 1.424 million total viewers across the 5 City Metro.

In Sydney, an average of 951,000 viewers watched the game on Channel Nine, with a peak of 1.061 million. It was the number one program for Total People and all key demographics: 25-54, 18-49 and 16-39. Game Three gave the Nine Network in Sydney a massive free-to-air audience share with Total People (50.6%), 25-54 (53.8%), 18-49 (54.9%) and 16-39 (57.9%) demographics all switching on to the coverage.

In Brisbane, an average audience of 742,000 watched the game, with a peak of 808,408. The Nine Network in Brisbane had an impressive free-to-air share last night with the Total People (54.7%), 25-54 (55.7%), 18-49 (58.8%) and 16-39 (59.4%) demographics.

In Melbourne, an average audience of 306,000 viewers watched for Total People, with a peak of 374,556. The Nine Network in Melbourne achieved a free-to-air share last night with the Total People (28.3%), 25-54 (29.4%), 18-49 (30.9%) and 16-39 (33.8%) demographics.

The Nine Network was No.1 on Wednesday night with People 25-54 (41.8%), 18-49 (43.2%), 16-39 (45.5%) and Total People (39.6%) across the 5 City Metro.
